What data we collect
Nothing personal. PopularRank does not have a backend account system. We do not collect names, emails, device identifiers, IP addresses, or behavioral data.
What stays on your device
Your custom lists, quiz sessions, and rankings are stored locally using SwiftData. If you have iCloud enabled, this data syncs across your Apple devices through CloudKit, end-to-end controlled by Apple's iCloud account and not visible to us.
On-device AI
List generation uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models (iOS 26+). Your search queries are processed entirely on your phone. We do not see, log, or transmit them. If on-device generation is unavailable, the app falls back to a curated catalog of 250 topics and a local heuristic. Still no network call.
Shared rankings
When you tap Share on a ranking, the app generates a universal link of the form popularrank.app/join/<channelId>. To make sharing work, that ranking's metadata is sent to a minimal sync server. The server stores only what's needed for friends to take the same quiz and does not include personal identifiers.
Health endpoint
The site footer pings api.popularrank.app/health to show a live status pill. This request includes only the standard HTTP headers your browser sends to any site; it is not logged with your IP and is not associated with any account.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change this policy in a way that affects how your data is handled, we'll update the date at the top of this page and call out the change clearly in the app's release notes.
